Dr Matthew Lombardi - Practice Principal


Ingham-born, Dr Matthew Lombardi grew up and completed his schooling in the district. He graduated from the University of Queensland with a bachelor of Dental science in 2007. Following graduation, Dr Lombardi moved to Townsville and has worked in private practice as well as having some experience working with Queensland Health.

Dr Lombardi has a gentle and caring chair-side manner and takes care in presenting and explaining in detail, treatment plan alternatives in all areas of modern, state of the art Dentistry and providing comprehensive, full mouth dental care. Dr Lombardi is a general dentist and has completed continuing education courses in Orthodontics, Laser Dentistry, Dental Implants, Cosmetic Dentistry and Neuromuscular Dentistry.

Hailing from a large Italian family, Dr Lombardi has a love of food. Cooking is one of his favourite past times and is especially famous for his Spaghetti Vongole. He enjoys going to the gym, playing and watching all sports; particularly soccer and golf; and travelling.

Dr Declan Collins


Dr Declan Collins was born in Townsville in 1991 and grew up and completed schooling in Charters Towers. He graduated from the pioneering first cohort of James Cook University’s Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree and began his professional career in Central West Queensland with Queensland Health.

Dr Collins shares North Queensland Family Dental’s patient centred approach to comprehensive treatment planning and aims to deliver a high quality, modern and a gentle experience. Dr Collins is a general dentist with an interest in restorative and preventive dentistry.

Growing up in North Queensland, Dr Collins is a fanatical Cowboys fan, with a love for many sports including rugby league, tennis and golf. He is also a keen fisherman and is relishing his return from outback Queensland to our beautiful coastline.

Carla Lejarraga


Carla holds a Bachelor Applied Health Science (Oral Health) from the University of Queensland and has practiced as a Dental Hygienist since 2000.

Carla Lejarraga is Australia’s leading expert in thumb and finger sucking habits of children and is the founder of The Thumb Sucking Clinic. A clinic the first of its kind in Australia – she empowers children to kick their thumb sucking habits and combat their long-term effects.

She also teaches Orofacial Myology practice to Dental and Speech professionals from all over the world and is regularly sought to lecture locally and internationally regarding her work in child facial development.

When Carla’s not busy doing Dental Hygiene, raising her four children, performing in her local theatre company, planning fantastic costume parties with friends and family, or high-fiving her young patients for the amazing results they’ve achieved, you’ll find her planning the expansion of The Thumb Sucking Clinic. It’s her unwavering goal to see every thumb sucking child experience the life-long benefits of her program.

Lizzie Crooks

Oral Health Therapist

After moving to Townsville following high school Lizzie Crooks worked for Matthew Lombardi as his dental assistant. It was the North Queensland family dental team that encouraged Lizzie to pursue a degree in oral health therapy.

Lizzie then made the move to Rockhampton to complete a bachelor of oral health at CQuniviersity. In her time at Rockhampton, Lizzie gained experience in both private practice and Queensland Health and spent time working in the school dental vans across Rockhampton. As an oral health therapist Lizzie is dual qualified as a dental therapist and hygienist and can treat people of all ages for both restorative and preventative dentistry. Lizzie has a keen interest in all areas particularly preventative treatment and oral health education.

Outside of being an oral health therapist, Lizzie enjoys baking, spending time with her fiancé and friends and walking her sausage dog, Winnie on the strand.

Marian Elliman


Originally from Cairns, Marian has worked in Townsville as a Dental Hygienist for over 25 years.  She has experience in both general practice and specialist orthodontic practice.

Her initial training was as a School Dental Therapist, graduating from the Townsville training centre in 1978.  In 1992 she qualified as a Dental Hygienist after studying in Adelaide.

Marian’s positive attitude and easy going nature enables her patients to enjoy a friendly and relaxed treatment experience.

Throughout her career, Marian has maintained a keen interest in staff training.  She worked for Brisbane TAFE as a workplace assessor for trainee dental assistants.  She has developed clinical training programs and encourages staff to pursue further studies.

Marian has also enjoyed working as labourer for her husband Des who is a (now retired) carpenter and builder.
