Cosmetic Dentistry Townsville
Cosmetic Dentistry procedures are designed to help improve the appearance of your teeth and create a perfect smile - and by doing so, they can also aid in better oral health.
Veneers can be a great solution for teeth that are discoloured, out of shape or improperly aligned as they provide an instant aesthetic improvement once attached.
When whitening or bonding of the teeth isn't a viable option, veneers may be the best alternative.
The process involves creating a thin shell of tooth-coloured material that is bonded to the surface of the teeth. There are two types of veneers used in dentistry, porcelain and composite.
Porcelain veneers are created in a dental laboratory from a thin layer of ceramic, using a dental impression of your teeth as the basis for design. Porcelain can be preferable as it is stronger and more resilient than composite veneers, yet still retains a natural-looking appearance in comparison with the rest of the teeth.
Composite veneers consist of a dental composite resin substance. They are more cost-effective than porcelain as they don't need to be created separately, and can be placed directly onto your teeth.
While less long-lasting and stain-resistant than porcelain, they also offer aesthetic benefits and can be shaped and polished to produce the desired result.
Teeth Whitening is a common cosmetic dental procedure used to improve the appearance of stained or discoloured teeth, helping to achieve a brighter, whiter smile.
There are two types of teeth whitening treatments available to you, either 'in-chair' or 'take home'.
The in-chair procedure typically takes about one hour, and involves a concentrated whitening agent that is placed onto the teeth, with a special light used to speed up the effects. Another substance is used to desensitise your teeth to the process, reducing the risk of increased sensitivity after the procedure.
For those who would prefer to do the procedure from the comfort of their own home, a kit can be provided with everything you need to carry it out yourself.
A lower concentrated whitening agent and custom-made whitening trays are included in the kit. The patient applies the whitening substance onto the trays and then wears the trays on their teeth. Results generally take longer, but they are comparable to an in-practice treatment.
Having straight, white teeth isn't just the key to a natural looking smile - it's also helpful for maintaining better oral health, as well.
Teeth that are crooked or out of alignment are more difficult to clean, resulting in a greater potential for plaque build-up. This can lead to swollen, sensitive or irritated gums as well as the risk of tooth decay, while straight teeth are easier to care for and less likely to develop dental problems.
